Why You Should Join the Yahara Fishing Club

You’ll have fun. Club members regularly go on fishing outings that target a variety of species, both in the area and in waters throughout the state and beyond. Club meetings during the summer months involve getting together for food and fishing reports, and then hitting the water on local lakes. Nothing beats fishing, and getting better at fishing, while spending time with good friends and making new friends (both male and female – women are the largest group of newcomers to the sport of fishing!).

You’ll learn a lot. No matter what your skill level when you join, you’ll raise your game through a Yahara Fishing Club membership. Monthly meetings feature guides and fishing experts as guest speakers, and club members likewise regularly share their fishing reports and expertise. Beginners can get up to speed quickly regarding effective gear choices and techniques, while experienced anglers learn nuances and new approaches that make their arsenal even more successful.

You’ll help to preserve and promote the sport for future generations. The club hosts two Kids Fishing Days per year – one on ice and the other in summer – in which the club provides free gear and instructs kids on the basics of fishing and good outdoor habits. Club members also assist other organizations around the Madison area with their kids fishing events, all the while promoting responsible, sustainable fishing approaches with the young people who are the future of the sport.

You’ll be a part of important conservation efforts. The club has provided funding and advocacy support for many community and conservation projects, and partners in shoreline and stream bank improvement efforts. The club also funds scholarships for fisheries students at UW-Stevens Point, and works to increase fishing access and opportunities for all people.
