Shore Fishing on Lake Wisconsin

The shores of Lake Wisconsin and the Wisconsin River offer many productive fishing opportunities. Scroll down this page to see just some of the locations you should check out!

Whalen Grade

Whalen Grade refers to the shoreline along County Hwy. V that runs north/south over the northeastern expanse of Lake Wisconsin north of Lodi. There is excellent shore fishing on both sides of the highway (but it’s a busy stretch of road, so always pay attention to what’s going on around you!). There is a fishing platform just adjacent to a bridge over the water connecting Whalen Bay to the rest of Lake Wisconsin – off that platform, you can fish on the bay side for largemouth bass, pike, panfish, sometimes even the occasional big and mean bowfin (just be sure to bring a long net if you’re targeting the bigger fish, because the platform is fairly high off the water). On the lake side, you can catch virtually everything that swims. This is a favorite spot in the late fall for the walleyes venturing near shore at night.

You can park all along the west side of Hwy. V and there’s room for plenty of vehicles. If you have disabled parking tags, you can also park in reserved spots on the east side near the fishing platform. (All others MUST park on the west side of the highway.)

Check out this monster flathead catfish one of our club members helped to land that was caught on the lake side of Whalen Grade! You never know what you’ll pull out of there, which is half the fun. (This gentleman was actually fishing for white bass with just a little ol’ Lindy Fuzz E Grub.)
